User Reviews about Fellowes 32197 Powershred SB-97Cs Shredder
I have had this shredder for 1 year & 7 months. It just keeps on going. Previously, I have had two, no, three lesser quality brands and I was lucky if they lasted a year. The only time this unit ever jammed was when I mistakenly put in a couple of full, junk mail envelopes. Obviously, this was WAY beyond the capacity of any home shredder. Needless to say, I won't do THAT again. This unit is used every day. I zap; junk mail, shipping labels, anything that I don't want to fall into the wrong hands. At the beginning of every month, I run a sheet of paper with a line of shredder lubricant accross its width. This is simple, preventive maintenance. I have not had ANY problems. The basket is, in my opinion, of sufficient size to accomodate the occasional home office user. I empty the basket usually once a month. With that usage rate, I anticipate the shredder being around for a long time. I HIGHLY recommend this shredder!! And, to those people who complain about its noise level; ITS A SHREDDER !!!! Unless you are trying to covertly shred documents, the noise level is more than tolerable. -- It does not quit !!
I researched this product on line and was drawn to this one even though it was a little more than I planned to spend. I had over 10 years of home business to shred and then plan to take it to our business. It is very solid, great looking, on wheels but it it very stable. It handles everything we give it and if it could I think it would smile! Staples are not a problem and it is very quiet for being a shredder. The design is simple and easy and I am extremely satisfied and happy we purchased this one.
Pro: looks, speed, ability to take many more pages than lesser models with no problems. Basically very quiet and easy to maintain. I did purchase the oil sheet and they are very simple. Use them every 30 minutes of continual use. Easy. It also comes with a bottle of oil so we can keep it well maintained.
Cons: Tends to fill toward the back and fills quickly (because it takes so many sheets at a time!) Recommend stopping more often to push down mass so you get as much per bag as possible. Don't wait till it shows the bag is full, it will be too late. The excess pile will fall behind the basket when you open the door and will need to be removed in order to close door properly. Also, there is a plastic piece at the front that will split your bag if you are not careful guiding the bag out of the basket when full.
The only thing that would make this a PERFECT shredder is to have an automatic push down device as the shred fills up. For the money, the size, the convenience, I would buy this one again and again. I am really happy we chose this one. -- Really pleased and pleasantly surprised
this thing is a paper monster. have shredded 10 years of business records w/o a hitch. will shut down after 20 minutes of continuous shredding, which is good time to take a break, then starts eating again later. if you need to get rid of stuff, this is great. -- paper monster
I own the Fellowes Power Shredder SB-95C the senior version of the newer SB-97Cs for over three (3) years without any major issues or problems. It's being used every day doing what shredders do best and I can honestly say the durability of this particular model is incredible. Yes, it jams once in awhile, just like all shredders but clearing the malfunction is quick and easy. With personal security being a high priority these days every personal document I receive is discarded from beginning to end all through this shredder with ease. This is my third shredder purchase as the previous models did not last the harsh condition of repeated use. Every month without fail I oil the shredders cutting mechanism with Fellowes Paper Shredder Oil (SKU #35250) to keep the blades sharp and the gearing apparatus operating smoothly. Don't waste your money on less expensive models/brands if you are going to use a shredder on a daily basis; believe me the lower-end, inexpensive, economical, cut-rate, bargain basement priced models in the course of time will break-down, start jamming more repeatedly and eventually will be replaced. I'm sure the SB-97Cs Fellows Power Shredder will do the job as well or better than its predecessor for many years without any difficulty. -- Fellows SB-95C vs SB-97Cs
